The Right to Die Society of Canada just sold its last copy of this
book (our website will be corrected soon). However, a master copy
has been kept, and selective photocopying can be done. If you are
interested, contact me via <ruth at righttodie.ca>, telling me where you
live and what your situation is.
This is necessary because most of the book's chapters are of limited
use to many people, especially people in North America.
(1) For barbiturates you need to travel, often a considerable
distance (e.g. to Central America or the Far East).
(2) Opioids are usually prescribed only for people experiencing
severe pain, so the five-week "getting clean" period would be hard to take.
(3) Chloroquine is a prescription drug in Canada and the US, and you
need to appear healthy enough to be planning a 6-month trip to
Central America or some other place where the malaria parasite has
not yet become resistant to chloroquine.
(4) Tricyclic antidepressants require a lead time of about a
year. After you convince a doctor that you suffer from depression,
you have to try several modern antidepressants (SSRIs) before
old-fashioned tricyclics will be considered, and then you have to get
your monthly prescription refilled many times (e.g. 8 times if you
have been prescribed tablets of 25 mg.).
(5) Orphenadrine is out of fashion for treating Parkinson's disease,
and if your doctor prescribed it for more ordinary muscle problems,
you would not likely get 70 pills of 50 mg. before the doctor decided
that some other drug should be tried instead.
This leaves helium. The pages on this method (and some "Additional
Notes" which have been compiled by writers other than the book's
authors) would likely be helpful to many people, the exception being
people who have an intractable horror of enclosing their head in a bag.
